পূবালী ব্যাংক পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে ইস্টার্ন মার্কেন্টাইল ব্যাংক লিমিটেড হিসাবে 1959 সালে বাঙ্গালী ব্যবসায়ীদের দ্বারা ব্যাংক কোম্পানি আইন 1913 এর অধীনে শুরু হয়েছিল। 1971 সালে বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার পর এই ব্যাংকটি বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের (জাতীয়করণ) অধ্যাদেশের অধীনে জাতীয়করণ করা হয় এবং পূবালী ব্যাংক নামে নতুন নামকরণ করা হয়।

পরবর্তীকালে, পূবালী ব্যাংক 1983 সালে একটি প্রাইভেট ব্যাংক হিসাবে বিচ্ছিন্ন করা হয় এবং পূবালী ব্যাংক লিমিটেড নামে নতুন নামকরণ করা হয়।

ব্যাংক ২০০৭ সালে উত্তরা ফাইন্যান্স অ্যান্ড ইনভেস্টমেন্টস লিমিটেডের সাথে 100 মিলিয়ন টাকা ঋণ চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করে।

2009 সালে, পূবালী ব্যাংকের রিজার্ভ ছিল 88.89 বিলিয়ন টাকা। এটির অ-পারফর্মিং লোন 2004 সালে 18.4 শতাংশ থেকে 2.96 শতাংশে দাঁড়িয়েছে।

ফেব্রুয়ারী 2014 সালে, বাংলাদেশ হাইকোর্ট বিভাগ ব্যাংকের একজন শেয়ারহোল্ডার শফি আহমেদ চৌধুরীর দায়ের করা একটি আবেদনের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে ন্যূনতম প্রয়োজনীয় শেয়ার না থাকার জন্য চেয়ারম্যান হাফিজ আহমেদ মজুমদার সহ পরিচালনা পর্ষদের আট সদস্যকে অপসারণ করে।

2016 সালে চট্টগ্রামে ব্যাংকের শাখায় 5 মিলিয়ন টাকা উধাও হয়ে যায় । যার পরে ব্যাংকের পাঁচ কর্মচারীকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। ব্যাংকের ১২৮.৬ মিলিয়ন টাকা আত্মসাতের অভিযোগে চট্টগ্রামে ব্যাংকের তিন কর্মচারীকে কারাগারে পাঠানো হয়েছে। জানুয়ারি মাসে, সফিউল আলম খান চৌধুরী পূবালী ব্যাংকের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক নিযুক্ত হন। গত মে মাসে ব্যাংকটির চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে নিয়োগ পান হাবিবুর রহমান। হা-মীম গ্রুপের সহযোগী প্রতিষ্ঠান দ্যাটস ইট ফ্যাশনস লিমিটেড পূবালী ব্যাংকের ১১ মিলিয়ন শেয়ার কেনার পরিকল্পনা ঘোষণা করেছে।

2019 সালের মে মাসে, আজিজুল হক পূবালী ব্যাংকের চেয়ারম্যান নির্বাচিত হন।

2021 সালে, বাংলাদেশ সিকিউরিটিজ অ্যান্ড এক্সচেঞ্জ কমিশন ব্যাংকটির 5 বিলিয়ন টাকার চিরস্থায়ী বন্ড অনুমোদন করেছে। এটি ব্যাংক মাস্কাটের সাথে 52 মিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলার ঋণ চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করেছে।

পূবালী ব্যাংক 2022 সালের অক্টোবরে বিশ্বসাহিত্য কেন্দ্রকে এক মিলিয়ন টাকা অনুদান দিয়েছে। এটি ব্রিটিশ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইনভেস্টমেন্ট থেকে 50 মিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলার পেয়েছে।

Qualifications: Masters in any discipline from a reputed university having 04 (four) 1st divisions/ Classes equivalent GPA or CGPA .

Emoluments: Consolidated pay TK.40,000/- (forty thousand taka) only per month during probation period. After successful completion of 01 (one) year probation period, they will be confirmed in the regular scale of pay Tk. 31,000-2,000-61,000/- and other admissible benefits with a total initial emoluments of tk 67,500/- only per month. 

 

 Name of the Post: Probationary Officer

No of Post: 200

Qualifications: Masters in any discipline from a reputed university having least 03 (three) 1st divisions/ Classes equivalent GPA or CGPA with no 3rd divisions/ Classes equivalent GPA or CGPA in any examination. 

Emoluments: Consolidated pay TK.35,000/- (thirty five thousand taka) only per month during probation period. After successful completion of 01 (one) year probation period, they will be confirmed in the regular scale of pay Tk. 25,000-1,600-49,000/- and other admissible benefits with a total initial emoluments of tk 53,550/- only per month. 

 

 Name of the Post: Probationary Junior Officer

No of Post: 360

Qualifications: Masters in any discipline from a reputed university having 02 (two) 1st divisions/ Classes equivalent GPA or CGPA with no 3rd divisions/ Classes equivalent GPA or CGPA in any examination.

Emoluments: Consolidated pay TK.30,000/- (thirty thousand taka) only per month during probation period. After successful completion of 01 (one) year probation period, they will be confirmed in the regular scale of pay Tk. 20,000-1,200-38,000/- and other admissible benefits with a total initial emoluments of tk 44,300/- only per month. 

 

General Condition: 

1.     Only published result (by the competent authority) will be accepted. Testimonial/ appeared  certificate for this matter will not be accepted. Candidates with foreign degree must have equivalence of foreign degree from University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. 

2.     Probation period: 01 Year. After successful completion of the probationaryperiod, candidates will be confirmed in the service of the Bank with respective regular scale of pay.

3.     Computer Literacy is a must. 

4.     Age limit: As Per Bangladesh Bank BRPD circular letter no. 43 dated 02.11.2022. 

5.     Not Over 30 years as on 25 March 2020 for general candidates. 

6.     Not Over 32 years as on 25 March 2020 for employees of Pubali Bank Limited.

7.     Not Over 32 years as on 25 March 2020 for dependent candidates (sons/daughters) of employees of Pubali Bank Limited.

8.     No affidavit in respect of age will be acceptable.  

9.     Departmental candidates of Pubali Bank Limited and other candidates those who are in the job in  other organization having requisite qualifications will apply through proper channel. 

10. Departmental candidates (sons/ daughters) of the Pubali Bank Limited will apply  through proper channel for the post of Junior Officer only by complying the rules on the matter as mentioned in the Human Resources Division's Instruction circular no 1609 dated 24-12-2014 and Information circular no. 2772 dated 21-05-2023. 

 

Special Conditions (to be noted carefully):

 Persuation/Tadbir in any from will result in automatic rejection of the candidature.

Selected candidates shall have to give an undertaking that he/she will serve the Bank for a minimum period of 05 (five) years. 

Selected candidates shall have to serve anywhere in Bangladesh. 

Certificates of different examinations submitted by the candidates to the Bank will be severely dealt with. 

Proficiency both in Bengali and |English required.

Pubali Bank was started in East Pakistan as Eastern Mercantile Bank Limited in the year 1959 under Bank Companies Act 1913 by Bengali businessmen. After independence of Bangladesh in 1971 this Bank was nationalized under Bangladesh Bank's (nationalisation) Ordinance and renamed as Pubali Bank.

Subsequently, Pubali Bank was denationalized in the year 1983 as a private bank and renamed as Pubali Bank Limited.

The Bank signed a 100 million taka loan agreement with Uttara Finance and Investments Limited in 2007.

In 2009, Pubali Bank had reserves worth 88.89 billion taka.[5] It's non-performing loans went from 18.4 per cent in 2004 to 2.96 per cent.

In February 2014, Bangladesh High Court Division remove eight members of the board of directors including chairman Hafiz Ahmed Mazumder for not possessing the minimum required shares in response to a petition filed by Shafee Ahmed Chowdhury, a shareholder of the bank.

Five million taka went missing in the bank's branch in Chittagong in 2016 following which five employees of the bank were arrested.[8][9] Three employees of the bank in Chittagong were sent to jail for embezzling 128.6 million taka from the bank.[10] In January, Safiul Alam Khan Chowdhury was appointed managing director of Pubali Bank.[11] In May, Habibur Rahman was appointed chairman of the bank. That's It Fashions Limited, a subsidiary of Ha-Meem Group, announced plans to purchase 11 million shares of Pubali Bank.

In May 2019, Azizul Huq was elected chairman of the Pubali Bank.

In 2021, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission approved 5 billion taka perpetual bonds of the bank. It signed a 52 million USD loan agreement with Bank Muscat.

The Pubali Bank donated one million taka to Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in October 2022. It received 50 million USD from the British International Investment.
